If you are interested to see an example of how the class blog/student logs set-up works, here is a link to a version produced in a previous course: Psychoanalysis and Literature. This link takes you to the last entry on the main class blog; search the archive if you want to see the first posts and how things developed chronologically. You'll also find a link on the right-hand side of the page to the Student Logs for that course; again, the first posts you'll see are examples of some of the final work for the class, even some of the final papers are posted. Scroll back to the beginning to see what kind of things students started out talking about in their logs, and how I and other students responded to various posts.
After class, a student whose name I didn't catch asked a good question: how can we see films if we happen to be absent on the day they are shown, or want to review them again? There are a couple of options. There is a great deal available online of both complete films (sometimes broken down into individual YouTube videos) and clips, and I'll let you know what resources are available like that. I'll also put my own copies of all the films we screen in class on reserve in the library: you can watch them anytime there. And nearly every film we will be looking at can be easily found at local video stores or via services like Netflix. The only film that might be difficult to get a hold of is Terence Davies' Distant Voices/Still Lives. I have multiple copies I will put on reserve; also check cable options. Recently, it's been showing up on one of the "On Demand" channels in my Time Warner package, much to my surprise.
I'll be sending out Blogger invites later tonight. Remember to set up your account and post ASAP so I know that everyone is set up and ready to go.
